All I can say is the Tuesday Crew is the best! I let them know at the last minute via text that I was feeling under the weather and wouldn’t be coming to the garden today. Knowing what to do, they met and surveyed the garden to remove wind blown debris and document some rain damage to the trails. The garden was officially closed, but I figured our volunteers would know how to work without damaging the trails. Mostly the issue with wet trails is associated with the Nature Trail that has several sections where deep shade keeps those sections muddy. They sent me lots of images many of which I am including in this update.
Bill Dobner was on site managing the compost operation.
Dale Harshberger, Beverly Kemmerling, Nancy Taylor Walker, Janet Wall, and new volunteer Ann Wright were on hand to work on the cleanup after 2 plus weeks of the Santa Ana wind event. You’ll recall that Ann was introduced to some of the crew the Tuesday the fires started in LA later that morning.

Below, Janet taking a picture of the large aloe at the top of the hill, and Nancy with the cart full of debris.

Below is the image Janet recorded.

In addition of the winter-blooming aloes, there were a slew of other plants in bloom. A couple of them are shown below:

Banksia menziesii in the Australian section. I don’t know when it has looked so good!
Beverly showing off the Chasmanthe floribunda at the second 4-corners in the S. African section:

Finally, there were several places on the trails that had this type of erosion. Luckily, it appears to have only gone through the surface mulch (natural and applied) layer.

When open, enjoy the myriad of winter blooms in the garden! There are many more than are shown here.
Many many thanks to Beverly, Janet and Nancy for their images!
